Sharon West brings an original and new sound to New Age which blends elements of pop symphonic, jazz and electronic music. She composes music and songs that help people to relax and rejuvenate themselves in the world today.
Sharon played numerous instruments throughout her life, starting with piano in 1st grade ("only played 2 years since my teacher said if I was going to only play by ear, that she couldn't teach me for very long"). Then she took up the Alto Recorder and had private lessons for 2 more years, then played violin for 2 years. But once she realized all her friends were in the band and not the orchestra, decided to play Alto Saxophone, and proceeded to play that from 6th grade through most of college in various jazz and symphonic bands. During college, she started to play the piano again as she could find them available in the dorm halls or music buildings. Although she was getting a degree in engineering, the need to write music never really left and was an integral part of her life. After getting both a B.S. and an M.S. in Engineering from the University of Illinois-Champaign, she took a management job at Illinois Bell/Ameritech (now SBC) and worked there for the next 17 years (picking up an MBA from Northwestern in the middle). She went back for some additional piano lessons for a couple years while working, and began experimenting with synthesizers back in the mid-1980s. After Ameritech/SBC, she worked at Tellabs in management for two more years before finally deciding to dedicate herself full-time to the music she felt "calling" her in the intervening years. She is now writing and producing her music full-time out of her home studio, with aspirations to write music soundtracks for films as well. She recently completed her Masters Certificate in Songwriting at the Berklee College of Music (Boston) via online courses.

She has had an interesting journey to finally being a professional, full-time composer and song-writer within the last three years. She produced her first CD, "Dances in the Mist" in 2003, released her second CD, "Canvas of My Soul" in 2004 her third CD, "Notes from the Woods" in 2006 and just released her fourth CD "World Journey" in December 2007.

Music that is both inspiring and soothing, Sharon describes her music as Trans-Rhythm (Transforming Rhythms) since each album is designed to provide an ebb and flow of rhythms, melodies and tempos that provide a deeply relaxing experience.
